A message from The Grand Hotel Brighton:

We look forward to welcoming you to the Grand Brighton for the convention in January

Our priority continues to be to keep our guests and staff safe during this time and we have a number of procedures in place across the hotel to ensure we are a Covid safe venue which you can read about here.

We continue to be committed to keeping our guests and our staff as safe as possible during this time and we have a number of safety precautions in place to make us a Covid safe environment.

Face coverings are now mandatory in public areas so we do ask our guests to wear masks as they walk around the hotel.

There are also updated government guidelines which means to attend the convention you will need to show ONE of the following two forms of evidence of your COVID-19 status on arrival:

Proof of your full vaccination status (this can be through either the Covid Pass on the NHS app, through a letter from your GP or with a vaccine card)

Documentation to prove a negative PCR/ LF test that has been taken on the day of arrival (again through the NHS app or NHS self-report tool).

We thank you in advance for your compliance which allows us to run the event within the guidelines we have been given

13th December

Dear All,

As you will have seen in the Media, we are now going in to a new Covid phase caused by the new Covid Variant, Omicron.  This is already starting to impact on how we live and early indications are that it will only get worse as we come to the end of the year and move into 2022. Amongst other things this is starting to impact on is the Brighton AA 2022 Convention.

The Convention Committee whilst endeavouring to proceed with the Convention and the Grand Hotel will at all times be compliant with all The Governments Legislation.

Safety is the primary concern, and we are in daily dialogue with The Grand to discuss compliance.

  • Attendees of the Convention MUST have EITHER a lateral flow test OR proof of vaccinations

Please see below, more details to follow.

The new restrictions will, should they come into law, impact people in different ways, the best way to get information will be to follow the Media or visit this Website which we will endeavour to keep up to date as and when information becomes available.

From Friday 10 December, face coverings became compulsory in most public indoor venues, such as cinemas, theatres and places of worship. There will be exemptions in venues where it is not practical to wear one, such as when you are eating, drinking or exercising. For that reason, face masks will not be required in hospitality settings.

From Wednesday 15 December, and subject to parliamentary approval, the NHS Covid Pass on the NHS App will become mandatory for entry into nightclubs and settings where large crowds gather – including unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees, unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees and any event with 10,000 or more attendees.

People will be able to demonstrate proof of two vaccine doses OR register a negative lateral flow/ other approved test via the app.

It is recommended to test using a lateral flow device, particularly before entering a high-risk setting involving people you wouldn’t normally come into contact with, or when visiting a vulnerable person. Lateral flow devices remain free of charge and can be collected from local pharmacies.

The government will keep the data under constant review.

Taken together, the government is hopeful these measures will reduce transmission and slow the spread of the Omicron variant and will continue to urge those eligible to get their boosters when called.

WE ARE GOING TO CREATE A SAFE VACCINATED BUBBLE WITHIN THE HOTEL where those in attendance can feel safe and confident.

  • Attendees of the Convention MUST have EITHER a lateral flow test OR proof of vaccinations

The hotel has a non-obtrusive Temp checker which will be available on both the main and Empress entrances. Apparently, it’s not that dissimilar to going through security at the Airport.
